God of War: Laufey

Death was supposed to be the end. Awakening in the Everywhen — the afterlife of the gods — Faye fights to protect the family she left behind.

What is God of War Laufey?

God of War Laufey is the new mainline entry from SIE Santa Monica Studio, revealed at State of Play on June 2, 2026. For the first time, players take control of Kratos' wife, Faye — her true name, Laufey the Just. The story begins immediately after her funeral pyre in 2018's God of War, as she awakens in a mysterious realm known as the Everywhen.

It is not a prequel and not a spin-off — Cory Barlog calls it 'a continuation of the timeline.'

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Since its reveal in June 2026, fans have had many questions about this new entry. We've gathered the most common inquiries based on official press releases and State of Play details.

Q:Is God of War Laufey a prequel?

A:No. It is a continuation of the timeline that begins exactly at Faye's 2018 funeral pyre. It runs parallel to Kratos' journey from her perspective in the afterlife.

Q:Can you still play as Kratos?

A:No. Faye (Laufey) is the sole playable protagonist. Kratos may appear in story cutscenes or as part of the narrative framing, but he is not a playable character.

Q:How does the combat differ from previous games?

A:The biggest changes are the addition of a manual jump button, a focus on mid-air combos, and the Soul Separation mechanic. It is faster and more acrobatic than Kratos' ground-based combat.
